This is part of a blog post that's been a long time coming, but I haven't quite had time to finish:
Setup the Mobile Admin Server to Send Push Notifications
The Mobile Admin mobile client has the ability to receive mobile push notifications to alert you of critical activity occurring in your IT environment. Before setting up mobile push notifications, it is important to understand how the push notification server is integrated into the overall Mobile Admin deployment. I've attached a diagram that shows a high level overview of a Mobile Admin deployment with push notifications. One key thing to notice is that the Push Notification Server is NOT the same as the Mobile Admin Server. The Push Server is actually a hosted server that SolarWinds maintains. When deploying Mobile Admin in your environment, ensure that the Mobile Admin Server can communicate out to the Push Notification server via external ports (iOS push notifications require ports 2197 and 2198; Android push notifications require port 2199.)

Mobile Admin’s Push Notification Server manages the relationship with the appropriate, trusted and secure messaging service such as Apple’s Push Notification Service or Google Notification Service to ensure the alert warning is pushed to the user’s mobile device. Details of each alert are protected and can only be accessed via the secure connection between the Mobile Admin Client and the Mobile Admin Server. Once they receive a new alert notification from the messaging service, the actual details of the alert are securely sent from their installed Mobile Admin Server.
