The alerts themselves wouldn't be stored on the server, they're in the database. Do you have the alerts logging to a file as part of a trigger action? Are the actions properly configured? If not, then the logs themselves could be filling up with errors trying to send actions. Another possibility would be if you have AV scanning email, which could be causing the emails to backlog on the server rather than send out. To remediate this, you'd want to disable email scanning on the SolarWinds server.
